Our Story
Gambian Food was created from a passion for sharing the flavours, traditions, and culture of The Gambia.
My journey began with food. Many years ago, I was inspired by a fellow Gambian woman, Haddy Conteh, whose cooking content on Facebook encouraged me to start sharing my own dishes online. Watching her gave me the confidence to begin posting photos and videos of Gambian food on Instagram and YouTube, introducing people to the rich flavours of our culture.
At the same time, another dream had been living in my heart for many years. Since around 2013, I often told my mother that one day I wanted to start my own tea company. I didn’t know exactly how I would do it, but the dream never left me.
The inspiration came from my childhood in The Gambia. Growing up, I remember going to the bush with family, collecting firewood, and enjoying traditional herbal teas such as Kinkeliba and Mbor Mbor, especially during Ramadan. The taste, aroma, and memories stayed with me for years, and I always hoped that one day more people would have the opportunity to experience these unique Gambian teas.
Later, my father shared another special family tradition with me. He told me about a tea his father used to prepare and passed the recipe on to me. Before then, I had never heard of it. Today, that family knowledge lives on through our Jambakatango & Bara Tea, allowing us to preserve and share a piece of our heritage.
At Gambian Food, we believe traditional products deserve the highest standards of care. While these teas have been enjoyed in The Gambia for generations, we are committed to ensuring they are carefully sourced, professionally prepared, tested, and packaged to high standards. We want to offer products that we would proudly serve to our own families. Our goal is not only to share authentic Gambian products with our community, but also to introduce them to customers everywhere with confidence and trust.
What began as a dream of sharing traditional teas gradually grew into something bigger. Alongside our teas, we now offer authentic Gambian products such as palm oil, with plans to introduce even more products from The Gambia in the future.
My vision is simple: to bring the authentic flavours of The Gambia to homes around the world while preserving the traditions and knowledge that have been passed down through generations.
This is only the beginning of the journey. We already have a family farm in The Gambia, and one of my long-term goals is to continue developing it by growing more of the natural products that make Gambian culture so special. Through Gambian Food, I hope to connect these traditions with customers around the world while creating opportunities that support local communities.
Thank you for being part of our story.
